After two positive test days, Althea BMW Racing Team is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with rider Marco Faccani for the 2017 Superstock 1000 season.

On track at Jerez de la Frontera both on Monday and Tuesday, Marco Faccani proved to be at ease on the BMW S 1000 RR in its Superstock configuration, despite having to contend with a slippery track as a result of rain throughout the two-day session.

With the testing now concluded, the Italian team led by Genesio Bevilacqua has made the decision that will see the 22-year old Italian rider race the STK1000 BMW bike next season. Faccani who is the 2014 Superstock 600 champion, concluded this year’s Superstock 1000 FIM Cup in eleventh place and is very enthusiastic about becoming part of the Althea BMW Racing team, as he takes the next important step in his career.

Jordi Torres was also on track at Jerez, continuing with the winter season’s development work. The team has no further tests planned for this year and will return to the track in January to continue with their preparation for the 2017 racing season, which begins in late February.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce the new arrival to our team in the Superstock 1000 class, a category that has already seen us crowned champions in 2016," said Genesio Bevilacqua. "Marco is a strong rider and has great character, and this is one of the reasons we’ve selected him. I believe that, together with Marco, we can achieve great results. There is a lot of work ahead of us but we’re ready to take it on and complete the steps that we need to take together both technically but also professionally speaking.”

Ahead of his exciting new adventure in 2017, Marco Faccani added, "We’ve completed two great test days, first in full wet conditions and then in the dry for part of Tuesday. It's been useful to ride here with the bike in the two different conditions. I have to say that I liked the BMW from the outset, it seems quite ‘simple’ though I know it will be harder to ride really fast. I wasn’t really used to making so many laps but I’ve had fun here. I’m extremely happy to have this opportunity, I want to fight for the title next season and know that with the Althea BMW Racing Team I have a great chance. I want to thank Althea and BMW and hope to repay everyone by achieving good race results and fighting for the 2017 title.”
